Ford BlueCruise is an advanced driver assistance system that allows you to drive hands-free on pre-mapped “Blue Zones” across the UK motorway network.
Using intelligent cameras and sensors, it monitors both road markings and traffic flow while keeping you centred in your lane, while ensuring you remain attentive with a driver-facing camera.
In short: you stay in control, while the car takes care of the heavy lifting.

As of 2025, over 95% of UK motorways† are part of the Ford BlueCruise coverage map, allowing hands-free driving in approved Blue Zones.
Simply activate BlueCruise upon joining the motorway, and your vehicle will automatically detect and enable hands-free mode where permitted.
With real-time route updates and connected intelligence, your Ford continuously adapts to traffic and conditions, making every motorway journey smoother, safer, and more relaxing.
Ford BlueCruise technology has undergone more than 100,000 miles of intensive testing, gaining regulatory approval from the UK Department for Transport (DfT) and European Commission.
This level of testing makes sure every journey meets the highest safety and performance standards, for complete peace of mind every time you engage hands-free driving.
At the heart of BlueCruise is an intelligent driver-facing camera, built discreetly into the instrument cluster.
This system continuously monitors your gaze and head position to confirm your focus remains on the road. If attention drifts, visual and audible alerts are triggered instantly, keeping you safe while maintaining the comfort of hands-free travel.
The technology also works just as efficiently in low lighting or changes in appearance (eg. if driver is wearing sunglasses).
Ford’s BlueCruise is a continuously evolving driving assistant. Through over-the-air software updates, it keeps pace with the latest mapping data, safety standards, and driver-monitoring intelligence.
From speed recognition and hazard detection to connected navigation, your BlueCruise experience becomes more refined and capable over time.
With its intelligent adaptive cruise control, BlueCruise combines Adaptive Cruise Control†† with Speed Sign Recognition, gently slowing as you approach a speed limit zone.
So, if you’re travelling at 70mph and are approaching a 40mph zone, the car will automatically brake to ensure your safety. Effortless driving, handled intelligently.
Working in harmony with Adaptive Cruise Control, Ford’s Lane Centring system uses cameras and sensors to detect lane markings with precision.
Subtle steering adjustments keep the vehicle perfectly positioned between the lines, avoiding veering from one side to the other, even on gently curving roads.
Hands-free driving is a new experience for many, so Ford includes a complimentary 90-day BlueCruise trial on all Mustang Mach-E† vehicles built from November 2022.
After the trial, you can continue your subscription for £17.99 per month*, unlocking the full benefits of Ford’s intelligent hands-free driving technology.
Subscriptions renew automatically and can be managed easily through the FordPass app.
