TheJAECOO 7 SHS-P has added a Guinness World Records title to its growing list of achievements after taking on the UK's National Three Peaks Challenge.
The JAECOO 7 achieved the lowest fuel consumption recorded while completing the UK National Three Peaks Challenge in a plug-in hybrid production SUV.
The JAECOO 7 SHS-P travelled 469.5 miles across Scotland, England and Wales, transporting the team between Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa while TV presenter Ben Shephard completed all three climbs.
Across the challenge, the car recorded fuel consumption of 68.7 mpg, with the result verified through RAC witnessing, Webfleet telematics data and Guinness World Records adjudication.
And unlike a controlled test-track economy run, the challenge took place entirely on real UK roads.
The record was awarded for achieving the lowest fuel consumption while completing the UK National Three Peaks Challenge in a plug-in hybrid production SUV.
To complete the challenge, TV presenter Ben Shephard climbed the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales back to back:
Meanwhile, record drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke shared the driving duties in the JAECOO 7 SHS-P, transporting the team between each peak while aiming to minimise fuel use.
By the finish, Ben had reached all three summits and the JAECOO 7 SHS-P had covered 469.5 miles at 68.7 mpg.
The figures were independently verified, allowing the team to secure the new Guinness World Records title.
The 68.7 mpg figure relates specifically to this record attempt and should not be confused with the JAECOO 7 SHS-P's official WLTP fuel economy figures. WLTP is the standardised test used to measure and compare fuel economy and emissions across new cars.
The challenge was about more than covering a long distance.
The route took the team across Scotland, England and Wales, with the JAECOO 7 SHS-P travelling on motorways, mountain roads and country lanes through changing conditions.
The drive continued through the night, with the team encountering rain, sunshine and high winds along the way.
That’s what makes the result particularly interesting. Rather than demonstrating efficiency under laboratory conditions or around a carefully controlled circuit, the JAECOO 7 SHS-P was driven over the kind of varied roads British drivers encounter every single day.

For a Guinness World Records attempt, a strong dashboard reading was never going to be enough.
The JAECOO 7 SHS-P used for the challenge was a standard production vehicle with no modifications.
Before setting off, the fuel filler and charging port were sealed. The RAC witnessed the sealing and reopening process, while GPS tracking recorded the full journey and each of the mountain climbs.
Summit evidence was also collected from Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa before a Guinness World Records adjudicator confirmed the result.
The final verified figure was 4.11 litres per 100km, equivalent to 68.7 mpg.
SHS-P stands for Super Hybrid System Plug-in, JAECOO’s plug-in hybrid powertrain.
It combines a petrol engine with electric power, allowing the car to switch between the two or use them together depending on the driving conditions and available battery charge.
For everyday journeys, that means owners can make use of electric driving where practical while still having the flexibility of a petrol engine when travelling further.
The JAECOO 7 SHS-P currently offers an EV range of up to 56 miles, alongside rapid charging capability from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes under suitable conditions.
That mix of electric driving and long-distance flexibility is exactly what made the SHS-P well suited to the Three Peaks challenge, where the car had to cover hundreds of miles across very different roads and conditions.
The Three Peaks record comes during what has already been a standout year for the JAECOO 7 in the UK.
In September 2026, the JAECOO 7 became Britain's Best Selling New Car, taking the top spot in the UK new car registration rankings for the month.
It’s also currently the Second Best Selling New Car in the UK year to date, a significant achievement for a model and brand that are still relatively new to British buyers.
For buyers considering the JAECOO 7, that sales success adds further reassurance. The model is not only making headlines, but also proving popular with UK drivers. The J7 is not only making headlines, it’s also proving to be very popular with UK drivers.
