MOT

When a vehicle reaches three years old, it’s required to undergo an MOT test every year to confirm that it still meets the minimum safety levels required by law. Here at M53 Ford, we’re pleased to offer testing for all Ford cars and vans.

Our dealerships in Ellesmere Port and Birkenhead are fully authorised MOT test centres, and are staffed by highly skilled technicians who will ensure your vehicle continues to be safe and roadworthy. We use the latest tools and technology to thoroughly test a range of components and systems, and can accurately diagnose any issues that may have arisen. Included in our checks are:

• Steering and suspension
• Brakes
• Tyres and wheels
• Lights and electrical equipment
• Exhaust, fuel and emissions

If your vehicle passes the MOT, you are issued with a certificate to confirm that, at the time of testing, it met the minimum legal safety requirements. This certificate lasts for 12 months. Should your vehicle fail, we’ll be in touch to explain why, and arrange for repairs to be made. Some issues – such as a new headlamp bulb – can be sorted on the day, while others may require an additional appointment. During the interim, it is illegal for you to drive your vehicle, unless you’re travelling to the test centre.

To improve the chance of your Ford passing its MOT, there are a few basic checks you can make before you bring it to us for the test. These include:

• Ensuring all lights – from head and taillights to indicators and brake lights – are working
• Ensuring the seat belts all work as expected
• Checking there are no cracks in the windscreen that impair the driver’s visibility
• Giving the vehicle – and particularly the number plates – a clean
• Checking the tyres have a minimum tread depth of at least 1.6mm
• Checking the horn works
• Checking there’s enough screen wash in the bottle
